Roberto und ich sind schon verdammt lange im internationalen Musikgeschäft tätig. So lange, dass wir uns an unsere Anfänge nur noch mit Mühe erinnern können.
Als wir unsere ersten Konzerte gaben, wurden die Automobile noch per Kurbel angelassen, überm Bodensee schwebten die ersten Zeppeline und Musik wurde in Schellack gepresst und durch riesige Grammphontrichter gehört.
In lichten Momenten sehen wir uns in einer Marschkapelle durch New Orleans marschieren, und in noch lichteren tragen wir Vatermörder und Klappzylinder und spielen in der Lobby des Waldorf Astoria zum Tanztee auf. Manchmal misstrauen wir auch unserem Langzeitgedächtnis, zum Beispiel wenn wir banjobewaffnet auf dem Mississippi dampfradeln, und an den Ufern sehen wir die noch rauchenden Ruinen des amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs.
In diesen Momenten argwöhnen wir, dass es nicht unsere Jugend ist, an die wir uns erinnern, sondern ein früheres Leben. Kollege Kerkeling meinte mal, Mönch in einem polnischen Kloster gewesen zu sein, Lady Gaga glaubt, die Reinkarnation ihrer Tante zu verkörpern, wir sehen uns als Ragtimer, Crooner, als früheste Musikwalzenstars, und zwar in braun-weiss, verknickt, vergilbt, gebrandlöchert.
